Coils
Sapphire NXT Detachable Coil System
Indications for Use
The SapphireTM Detachable Coils are intended for the endovascular embolization of intracranial aneurysms that - because of their morphology, their location, or the patient's general medical condition - are considered by the treating neurosurgical team to be a) very high risk for management by traditional operative techniques, or b) be inoperable. The SapphireTM Detachable Coils are also intended for the embolization of other neuro vascular abnormalities, such as, arteriovenous malformations and arteriovenous fistulae.

Description
The Sapphire NXT Detachable Coil is manufactured from a platinum alloy wire wound into a primary coil and formed into a secondary three-dimensional structure with helical and spherical shapes. It is coated with parylene polymer and laser welded to a stainless steel detachment element, which is connected to a delivery wire assembly including a stainless steel wire and Teflon-covered radiopaque positioning coil for fluoroscopic guidance. Fibered versions include nylon fibers, and tension safe coils use a Nickel-Titanium inner filament. Detachment is achieved via a battery-operated power supply that dissolves the detachment element.
